TRACY HARRIS’ FLUTE BOOT CAMP

Boot Camp Director:
Yamaha Performing Artist and Clinician Tracy Harris

Dust off your flute case and get back into shape while learning from a world class artist in this two-day intensive woodwind flute/piccolo boot camp designed to help prepare the flute/piccolo student for band camp and wind ensemble rehearsals.  This Boot Camp will help all players get back in shape for the new academic year and perhaps even get a better chair to “boot”.
There will be a staff of flute professionals trained by Ms. Harris so that flutists of all playing levels receive assistance.  This year there will be an advanced Boot for those of you who have attended previous boots.

OPEN TO FLUTISTS AND PICCOLO PLAYERS FROM GRADES 5 TO 12

WHEN: Next Flute Boot Date coming soon!
WHERE: TBD
HOURS: TBD
CLASS MATERIALS COST: $5 (If you are unable to afford the $5 materials fee please contact us for a possible fee waiver)
*Flute Booters are responsible for their own lunch or they may buy lunch on site from the Tulare Western Band Boosters

The following 10 important basics will be covered with the “Flute Booters” over the two days:

  1. Warm up routines that build a clean, rich tone.
  2. Correct Fingerings for all notes including trill fingerings for both flute and piccolo (free fingering guides).
  3. How to breathe properly and make the most out of your breath and projection.
  4. Intonation – Using tuning devices, tuning by ear, how to play well in tune with other instruments and much more.
  5. Care and maintenance of your flute/piccolo.
  6. Vibrato - just how is it done?!
  7. Articulation for both single and double tonguing.
  8. Piccolo –The “Screeching Twig”- can it truly be tamed? – 5 steps from Screech to Scrumptious!
  9. Efficient Practice routines and mental strategies that help you become the best performer you can be.
  10. How to distinguish yourself from the many other fine flute/piccolo players and how to handle those audition “jitters”.

A woodwind technician will visit during the class for flute and piccolo repairs as needed and there will be a flute and piccolo demonstration for anyone interested in the new rental or purchase of an instrument.
